Smart Lock is an Android feature that bypasses your lock screen security. In most phones, this option will be found in Settings (Security) Smart Lock. It is important that you have set your Forget PIN before it.

You will need to input your current lock password to set it up. You can then choose from five possible options to unlock your smartphone without a password. These are- On-Body Detection, Trusted Place, Trusted Device, Trusted Face and Voice Match. If you have already set one or more of these options before - Forget Password, you can use it to unlock the phone.

Use forget pin prompt

If you have an older phone with Android 4.4 KitKat or earlier then you can reset your passcode via the lock screen. It uses your Google Account. Input wrong pattern multiple times in lock screen.

You will now see a prompt to enter your Google Account information. Type your email address and password. Now you will get the option to reset the lock screen pattern. Modern versions of Android do not have this option.

If by any means you are unable to recover the passcode then you have to resort to factory reset. However, this will delete all the data on your phone.

If you've signed in to your Google Account and backed it up, you can sign back into the same account after the reset and recover your data. To do a factory reset, you can take the help of Google's Find My Device application on the website.
